After the semifinals of
Copa America 1987, Uruguay stuns Argentina with a 2-0 Victory tonight after 36 years in the Worldcup Qualifier 2023  CONMEBOL. Uruguay secured the second position in the table with victory in a total of 3 out of 5 matches Played. Argentina still secures the first position with the highest points on the table.

Lionel Messi failed to score for his team for the first time since the World Cup Group Stage against Poland on Nov. 30, 2022, ending his streak of nine straight starts with a goal, which was the longest of his national team career

In the first half, the attacking momentum of both was nearly the same while Uruguay was a bit possessive side focusing more on ball possession. Just before the announcement of the first half Ronald Araujo smashes a goal behind the bar at 41'.

In the second half of the play, Uruguay started focusing more and more on the counter-attacks that worked best for them, resulting in a second goal in the bag by Darwin Núñez at 87'.

Lionel Messi commented on the match against Uruguay, stating that the opposing team was intense and made it difficult for them to play their game. He also mentioned that Uruguay had physical and fast players in the midfield, which made it hard for Argentina to possess the ball for a long period of time. The loss is a good test for Argentina. This will help Argentina prepare harder to play their best in Brazil next week.

Columbia is in 3rd Position in the table followed by Venezuela and Brazil in the 4th and 5th position on the league table respectively.
