Ahmedabad, November 19, 2023: In a nail-biting final at the Narendra Modi Stadium last night, Australia defeated India by 6 wickets to clinch their record-extending sixth ICC Men's Cricket World Cup title.

Batting first after winning the toss, India posted a modest 240/8 in their 50 overs. KL Rahul top scored with 66, while captain Virat Kohli (47) and vice-captain Rohit Sharma (47) made vital contributions. However, the Indian innings never got going as the Aussie bowlers, led by Mitchell Starc (3/56), kept them under check.

In reply, Australia overhauled the target with relative ease in just 43 overs, thanks to a brilliant unbeaten 137 by Travis Head. He was ably supported by Marnus Labuschagne who struck 58. Earlier, the Indian bowlers tried hard but found little assistance from the surface. Jasprit Bumrah took 2 vital wickets while Mohammed Shiraj and Mohammed Shami took a wicket each but could not stop Australia's dominant batting display.

With their clinical performance, Australia has now won a record six World Cup titles, cementing their position as the most successful ODI team. The World Cup returned to Australia after five years, but the Men in Yellow maintained their stranglehold on the prestigious trophy.

On the other hand, India's quest for a third World Cup crown continues as the Men in Blue fell agonizingly short yet again in the final. However, their consistent showing over the years proves that India will remain a force to reckon with in future World Cups.

For Australia though, this victory marks the perfect end to a dominant World Cup campaign.
